ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Jagodish Biswas is a contemporary Bangladeshi visual artist whose artistic journey reflects dedication, exploration, and a deep engagement with both traditional and modern art practices. Born on September 21, 1990, in Satkhira, Bangladesh, he developed an early interest in art, which gradually evolved into a lifelong passion.
Biswas began his formal education in the arts after completing his Secondary School Certificate in 2007. He pursued Pre-BFA studies at Khulna Art College under the National University in 2009, followed by a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Drawing and Painting in 2013. His academic journey culminated in a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Drawing and Painting from the University of Development Alternative (UODA) in 2019.
Throughout his career, Jagodish Biswas has actively participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, showcasing his work in prestigious venues such as the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Liberation War Museum, and international art fairs in countries like Japan and India. His first solo exhibition, “Small World,” was held in 2018 at the American Club in Dhaka, marking a significant milestone in his artistic career.
Biswas has also engaged in various workshops and residencies, including watercolor workshops and observational studies in India and Nepal, which have enriched his artistic language and visual expression. His work often reflects a thoughtful observation of nature, society, and human experience.
His artistic excellence has been recognized with several awards, including the Top Ten Award at the Liberation War Museum of Bangladesh Police National Painting Competition in 2024, along with multiple honors in painting and sculpture.
Today, Jagodish Biswas continues to contribute to the contemporary art scene of Bangladesh, with his works held in collections both locally and internationally, including in the United States and the Netherlands.
