Amid the noise and relentless pace of urban life, The Quiet Within, a solo exhibition by cinematographer and visual artist Rashed Zaman, invites viewers to pause and reconnect with a quieter inner space.
Organized by Bengal Foundation, the exhibition is on view at the Quamrul Hassan Exhibition Hall, Bengal Shilpalay, Dhanmondi. Through a series of visual artworks, Rashed explores the subtle relationship between light, shadow, nature, memory and inner stillness.
His visual artworks move beyond straightforward documentation of landscape. Carefully composed frames, restrained colours, delicate contrasts of light and shadow, and generous negative space create a contemplative visual language. Distant landscapes, solitary moments and traces of life appear suspended between movement and stillness, giving the images an almost meditative quality.

Although photography became the primary medium of his artistic practice, Rashed’s early aspiration to become a painter continues to shape his visual sensibility. His attention to composition, light, space and tonal balance reveals a distinctly painterly approach to the creation of visual artworks.
Light is particularly significant in his practice. For Rashed, it is not merely a visual element but a force capable of influencing the human spirit. He describes the Creator as the greatest ‘cinematographer’, constantly shaping the world through light. This idea resonates throughout the exhibition, where light and shadow become a quiet language of contemplation.
At the opening, H.E. Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, Ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh, expressed his appreciation of the works and the stories embedded within the individual frames. Renowned artist Monirul Islam, who attended as a special guest, also highlighted the introspective quality of the exhibition, noting the way Rashed’s photographs bring together observation, cinema and memory through a painterly sensibility.
For Rashed, stepping away from the density of the city and seeking an ‘open canvas’ in nature has become an important part of his creative journey. Through The Quiet Within, he hopes viewers will similarly pause, look more closely, and rediscover a sense of calm within themselves.

Rather than presenting nature simply as subject matter, the exhibition approaches it as a space for reflection. Here, silence becomes an experience, light becomes a poetic presence, and the landscape becomes a passage towards memory and self-awareness.
The Quiet Within is ultimately an invitation to slow down—to look beyond the surface of an image and listen to the silence that exists within it.
