A joint painting exhibition titled ‘Petrichor: Impressions of Time’, featuring artists Afrina Naznin and Razia Sultana, is currently underway at Bhumi Gallery in Lalmatia, Dhaka. Organized by Easel Art & Artist Group, the exhibition marks the group’s fifth artistic initiative and its first-ever two-person painting exhibition.
Built around the theme ‘Individual Yet Together’, the exhibition brings two distinct artistic practices into a shared visual space. While the works retain the individual perspectives and sensibilities of the two artists, they converge through a common exploration of time, memory, human experience, and the enduring beauty of everyday life.
The title Petrichor refers to the earthy scent that rises from the ground after rainfall. Much like that fleeting yet evocative sensation, the works in the exhibition evoke an underlying resonance of memory, time, and emotion. Through their individual artistic journeys, both artists transform personal observations and experiences into visual compositions, creating two separate yet interconnected worlds.
One of the notable aspects of the exhibition is the use of the miniature art tradition. Through relatively intimate formats and carefully composed imagery, the artists explore personal emotions and observations with a sense of delicacy and precision. Despite their modest scale, the works open up broader reflections on time, memory, human behaviour, and the experience of life.
Placed side by side, the works reveal the distinctiveness of each artist’s visual language while also creating a shared field of sensibility. Their individual practices evolve into a collective visual dialogue, allowing viewers to recognise both the differences and affinities between their approaches.
The exhibition was formally inaugurated on Friday at Bhumi Gallery. Artist Kawsar Hasan Tagor and Abdullah Al Bashir attended the opening ceremony as guests.
For years, Easel Art & Artist Group has worked to foster meaningful connections among artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts within Bangladesh’s contemporary art scene, creating spaces for artistic exchange and creative engagement. The present exhibition continues that effort by bringing the individual practices of two artists together within a single exhibitionary framework.
‘Petrichor: Impressions of Time’ will remain open to visitors until 21 August. The exhibition can be visited daily from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bhumi Gallery, Lalmatia, Dhaka.
