The monsoon in Bengal is more than just a season—it is a unique artistic language shaped by nature, culture, and emotion. Capturing the many dimensions of this enchanting season through the transparency and sensitivity of watercolor, Bhumi Gallery in Dhaka is presenting a group watercolor exhibition titled “Rainscape.”

For centuries, the Bengali monsoon has inspired artists, poets, writers, and musicians alike. The ever-changing interplay of rain, clouds, light, wind, and lush greenery has made this season a timeless source of aesthetic beauty and emotional depth. Rainscape seeks to translate this enduring inspiration into the spontaneous and fluid visual language of watercolor.

The exhibition features works by 25 watercolor artists from Bangladesh, bringing together renowned masters, experienced practitioners, promising young artists, and recent graduates from art institutions. As a result, the exhibition creates a unique dialogue among three generations of artists, showcasing diverse artistic experiences, aesthetic perspectives, and creative expressions.

Watercolor, with its inherent transparency, fluidity, and spontaneity, is particularly suited to expressing the essence of the monsoon. Through this medium, the participating artists not only depict the beauty of nature but also explore the memories, nostalgia, emotions, reflections on life, and cultural sensibilities closely associated with the rainy season.

Beyond celebrating Bangladesh’s natural landscape and its intimate relationship with the monsoon, Rainscape also serves as an important platform for intergenerational artistic practice, creative exchange, and mutual learning.

Saifur Rahman Lenin, Founder and Chief Executive of Bhumi Gallery, said the exhibition has been organized with the vision of connecting Bangladesh’s rich watercolor tradition with the creative practices of emerging artists and presenting this artistic heritage more prominently on the international stage. According to him, Rainscape is a sincere and aesthetically compelling expression of that vision.

Rahman Sami, Subarna Chakraborty Tanmoy, Sampa Joha, Rubel Khan, Helal Shah, Anamuz Jahid, Tamanna Liza, Koridul Islam, Jayanta Mondal, Fariaz Emran, and Jhalak Saha.
